Shipping containers were designed to economi-cally and securely store and transport goods over long distances in watertight conditions. Their dimensions were internationally standar-dized, particularly in terms of height and the shape of the enclosure itself. The most striking coincidence, and a rather odd one at that, is that the space that had been designed to store and transport good, to certain degree, happens to have the right human scale as well. This means they are entirely appropriate for designing inhabitable spaces. They can be juxtaposed or joined together to form architecturally complex structures.
